On 13 February, at the Teaching Area – Vineyard of the Universiti Botanic Garden - Balchik, we marked one of the most respected celebrations in Bulgarian tradition – Trifon Zarezan, the day of vine growers and winemakers.

This holiday symbolically marks the beginning of the new viticultural year. With the ritual pruning of the vines, we wished for fertility, health, and a rich harvest – a gesture that through the centuries has preserved the connection between people, the land, and wine.

The festive day unfolded in a pleasant atmosphere among the rows of the vineyard. The weather seemed to hold just for us so it didn't rain. As a precaution, we had arranged for the wine tasting to take place in the exhibition greenhouse – warm, surrounded by the collections of cacti and succulents.

Guests had the opportunity to take part in the ritual, taste selected wines, and enjoy a walk through the garden, immersing themselves in the spirit of the celebration and nature.

We would like to thank everyone who celebrated Trifon Zarezan with us and shared this beautiful Bulgarian tradition within the setting of the botanical garden.
