Educational Experimental Grounds Dragalevtsi
The Educational-Experimental Ground "Dragalevtsi" is situated on 52 acres of agricultural land located in the Dragalevtsi neighborhood. On the premises, an Arboretum has been established, covering the larger southern part of the land. Its area is 7,215 square meters and represents a permanent exhibition of a collection of trees and shrubs in an outdoor setting, created under the project "Creation of Plant Collections for Educational Purposes," funded by the Environmental Protection Activities Management Enterprise (PUDOOS) of the Ministry of Environment and Waters. In 2024, as part of the project "Design of Geoplastic Terrain for the Expansion of the Arboretum of the University Botanical Garden," an extension of the Arboretum covering an area of 3,000 square meters was constructed. Here, collections of plant species from around the world are maintained, enriched, and exhibited.
Various types of plants are cultivated: broadleaf and coniferous trees, flowering and foliage-decorative shrubs, and perennial flowers, including species planted from seeds through the international exchange INDEX SEMINUM.
The area also has a water feature, a sports area, a compost depot, a vegetable garden and an “experimental zone”
The Educational-Experimental Ground "Dragalevtsi" provides conditions for conducting practical classes and practices with students, offering educational materials of plant origin. The base is also used for scientific research activities and can serve other faculties of Sofia University and scientific organizations under regulated collaboration.
