125 YEARS UNIVERSITY BOTANIC GARDENS

The Botanic Gardens of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” commemorated their anniversary

The celebration took place on the day of summer solstice, June 21, in the park section of Botanic Garden – Sofia. Friends from the academic, scientific, management and educational spheres honoured the event. The anniversary started with a blessing ceremony using holy water for the health of the employees and also the prosperity of the institution. It continued with the laying wreaths at the monument of Dr. Stefan Georgiev, the founder of the botanic garden and the first professor of botany in Bulgaria.
On the occasion of the anniversary, there were congratulatory notes on behalf of Prof. Anastas Gerdjikov - the Rector of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”; the director of the University Library, the executive director of the Museum of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”; the Office of the Dean of the Faculty of Biology at the Alma Mater and the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Shumen University “Bishop Constantine Preslavski”. Our colleagues recalled the Latin sentence Per aspera ad astra, and with this we accept with gratitude the wishes for at least 125 more successful years in the development of the botanic gardens as scientific and educational institutions open to deal with socially important issues.
