The Hidden Greenhouses at University Botanical Garden – Balchik

Garden: Balchik
Date published: 17.02.2026

The working greenhouses of UBG Balchik allow year-round cultivation of plants from habitats far from Bulgaria – from arid deserts to lush tropical regions. This is also where every seasonal display begins, and where specimens grown through the international seed exchange system take root. Large cacti and succulents, palms, and other tropical plants take winter refuge under these greenhouses so each summer they can return to their rightful place among the garden’s main alleys and open spaces.
This hidden world serves not only as a production hub, but also as a teaching space for students and pupils, and as a conservation center for endangered species under CITES regulations.

We invite you to a behind-the-scenes botanical visit – tours are organized in small groups of up to 8 people, by prior reservation. Tickets are available at the garden’s ticket offices.

Come and discover where every green story in the garden begins.
