On the eve of one of the brightest Orthodox holidays – All Saints' Sunday – the University Botanical Garden – Eco Park Varna celebrated, for the first time, the Pumpkin Festival, with many surprises for both children and adults.
Guests of the botanical garden tasted delicious pumpkin cream soup prepared by chefs from the “Supa Market” restaurant in Varna. A pottery workshop was organized for the youngest visitors to make clay pumpkins, where our friends from “Ceramics Studio Varna” demonstrated the intricacies of the craft. For the most curious, the curator of the University Botanical Garden – Varna, landscape architect Preslav Yanchev, shared detailed information about the Cucurbitaceae family, the cultivation of plants from this family, and how pumpkins can be grown in raised beds. Various types of this fascinating fruit, arranged in beautiful displays, attracted the attention of the visitors. All name-day celebrants received a gift from the hosts, and the event continued with a festive raffle featuring many prizes.
The organization of cultural events is part of the social mission of botanical gardens, which is closely linked to their main task—to educate and create a connection between the plant kingdom and humans. To engage city dwellers in getting to know nature, its wealth, showcased in the great biodiversity maintained by the gardens, and through its beauty, to explain its importance for human life, as well as to direct attention to the environment so that it can be preserved as it is.
Eco Park Varna is open for visits every day from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM in October and from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM in November. All arrangements and photo spots will be available to view until the end of the weekend.
