A sustainable garden is to be made at the Sofia University Botanical Garden,
It will be built according to the concepts of sustainable gardening. It combines organic gardening practices with conservation of natural resources. Sustainable gardening works in support of the ecosystem, not aesthetics, and with nature, not against it.
Another aspect of a sustainable garden is its carbon footprint. It is a low-carbon garden. The idea to develop such a model in the botanical garden in Sofia was dictated by the modern trends in the field of landscape design, where the priority is minimal intervention in the environment and the integration of the garden into nature.
According to the Brundtland Report / "Our Future"/ of the World Commission on the Environment from 1987, sustainable development is that which "meets the needs of the present without jeopardizing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs".
